So as it turns out, although Hk as a clan is dead, the Hk community is risen from the grave to devour tasty brains.
The past three weeks, some of us have gotten together and played a little war3 on (when else?) Wednesday nights at 8 eastern.
The thread about it is at http://holyknights.xepher.net/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=93 and, counting it up, a dozen Hk alumni have shown their faces on various weeks to play. Additionally, a couple friends of some of said alumni were dragged in.

You want to play, come play. Post in the thread to let us know to expect you. If you're really, really old-school, you know where to find us. If you're one of those war3-era noobadors, the channel is mentioned in the thread some place, I'm sure you can find it.

No one has commented on my clever CSS maneuvers, so if you like what you see, speak up.

Now, in a spirit of atrocious sentimentality and nostalgia, I'm going to reply to this post with the log of the Four Year Anniversary Meeting on November 24, 2002.

So, you all may have noticed Hk is kinda dead. I was just reminiscing over a bunch of stuff this week, talked to a few people on AIM (hi, because probably only people reading this are those I inspired to come take a peek.).

I just wanted to mention something that I just realized I never pointed out to anyone.
Back when I made this particular reworking of the Hk site (you know, the one where I basically stripped out everything because the clan was pretty dead), I did it as an exercise in achieving the absolute separation of content and presentation.

I actually made style sheets that emulate the appearances of various sites Hk has used over the years. These have always been loaded as alternate stylesheets, but in case you didn't notice or have a browser that doesn't support alternate stylesheets, I just made a quick change so that you can use a GET parameter to do the same thing.

So:

http://holyknights.xepher.net/?style=2004 is what you're looking at now. It was introduced in (you guessed it) 2004 and used ever since.
http://holyknights.xepher.net/?style=soul is the site we switched to around when Warcraft III was first released. Good times and walks down memory lane abound. It is so named because Soul made that site (he also designed the 2004 layout, but I did the coding for it).
http://holyknights.xepher.net/?style=silver is the site we used from the late Brood War through the Diablo II eras of Hk. My particular pride in making the stylesheet to recreate it is the way that I combined a #nav ul a display:block rule with different background-image properties on #nav ul a:link versus #nav ul a:hover to make the old rollover buttons in a way that does not use a giant ream of javascript and does not require image editing to be employed to make new buttons. It also does some clever shit to use those header images without having to add img tags (they're background images on block elements like the h1 with their font sizes set to zero).
http://holyknights.xepher.net/?style=oldgold tries to capture the spirit of one of our D1-era sites. So did a crappy site I made which was used between the silver and soul layouts. This one uses some position: fixed rules to emulate the effect of frames without having to change any markup to use them.
And http://holyknights.xepher.net/?style=none (or any style=somestylethatdoesn'texist) will more clearly show you how the HTML for this site is actually structured. Remember that setting the style for the page is only changing which CSS files are being loaded, and not altering the markup in any way.

No guarantees for IE users. I've never had it or used it and I know it hates W3C standards and likes to mangle my beautiful CSS.

Upcoming tournaments!

In a couple weeks (On Dec 10th & 11th) Clan Hk shall host a pair of 1v1 tournaments; one Brood War tournament, and one Frozen Throne tournament. Anyone interested in putting up a fight and probably getting maimed by SoulTaker and/or MidnightSun, now's the time to start practicing your game of choice and de-rusting your skills.

For more info, see this thread.

Welcome to new site

Ahoy all, and welcome to the new Hk site and forum, which have been put up for the clan's 7 year anniversary.

A while ago Xepher said that he's going to stop supporting MySQL, and also mentioned that people should stop using phpBB. Soul and I found his reasons wholly convincing and began setting up this new PunBB forum. Page load times should be significantly faster.

I also decided to finish off my reworking of the Hk site. The layout should look almost identical, but I totally reworked the markup and CSS. As a result, page load times should be faster, and if you were to look at the site with a browser with no CSS support it would be sensible, if boring. I can't speak for browsers with terrible CSS support, however. If the site fucks up, let me know; I bet IE will cause trouble, it always does. I actually finished most of this site months ago, I just polished it off with some ties to the PunBB database and put in some light content.

B.net is officially alive but small. Right now stuff is being run very informally, without a list of "so and so is considered to be a member of Hk, but this dude is arbitrarily not!", tags, or ranks. The main idea is just to get cool people to hang out in the channel and game. If you're up for some Brood War or FT, drop by.

According to Pure, Guild Wars is out of style at present, but if he felt like it he could build the clan back up at any time.  Ask him if you want more info, since I'm not a GW player.
